Volunteer

The Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival is looking for volunteers to contribute their time and talents to our community.  As an all-volunteer, non-profit film festival, we need dedicated individuals to join our team in the months leading up to the festival, as well as on-site festival staffing October 5th through the 11th.  Volunteer roles are listed below.  We are flexible on time and participation if you can assist with any portion of these roles. Or suggest a role based on interest and availability.

Filmmaker Liaison

Assists with responding to filmmaker emails to answer questions and provide details on the festival. This is an online position with optional in-person coordination during events. Communicates with filmmakers via email and social channels, answers questions, provides instructions and event details, gathers assets and materials (poster images, video files, bios), coordinates interviews and appearances, and sends out announcements to filmmakers.

Social Media Manager

Looking for assistance with posting on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube Shorts, and community engagement.  Create post graphics and post short-form videos. We post out daily graphics promoting each official film selection leading up to the festival.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Video Editor

We are looking for skilled individuals who can edit short-form video to assist with creating festival trailers, theatrical intros for events, and edited programming for events.  Creates trailers, sponsor videos, social media clips, and festival intro reels.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 11th

Graphic Designer

We are looking for creative individuals with design and layout skills to create or resize custom graphics for print and screen including posters, flyers, social graphics, banners, website graphics, and signage

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Media Tech / DCP Coordinator

We are looking for skilled video technicians who can create DCP files for venues from our edited MP4 video files, provided on a cloud drive. Creates DCPs, verifies files, and coordinates with projectionists and venues to submit programs for events.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 1 month  Date Range: September 5th - October 10th

Copywriter / Content Editor

Help with writing and proofing short-form copy for the website, blog, Invadr newsletters, filmmaker spotlights, program descriptions, and press features.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Public Relations (PR)

Create press releases and seek placements to promote the festival, including online, print, streaming, and broadcast media.  Responsibilities include media outreach, interview coordination, and story submissions.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Photography & Video Team

Event photography, filmmaker interviews, highlight reels.  Minimal editing and daily distribution by uploading to a cloud folder for posting.

Position Type: On Site / In-Person  Duration: 6 Days  Date Range: October 5th - 10th

Sponsorships & Community Relations

Fundraising through sale of festival sponsorships. Sponsor communication, community partnerships, donor outreach.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 1 through October 1st

Grant Writers

Looking for assistance in applying for grants for our non-profit organization.  Includes researching grant opportunities, grant-writing, application submission, and follow-up.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: Year-round  Date Range: Ongoing

Programming Assistant

Assist the team with creating and administering programs for the festival, including online and in-person events. Organizes screening schedules, drafts program descriptions, tracks submissions, metadata, and runtime verification. Create themed events that conform to requirements.

Position Type: Remote/Online & In-Person During Events  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Streaming Platform Coordinator

Assist with managing the online streaming platform that provides up to 200 films, linear channels, watch parties, and original programming.  Uploads films (video files), adds award notifications and laurels to films, QA testing, schedules watch parties, geo-blocking, troubleshooting, assists with setting up themed program nights on the platform.

Position Type: Remote/Online  Duration: 2 months  Date Range: August 15th through October 15th

Event Volunteers

We are looking for individuals that are able to assist with events including set up, break down, registration, merchandise sales, and coordination.  Volunteers should expect to be onsite 1-hour before event start and up to 30 minutes after the end of the event.  Partial shifts are also possible.
