ZI OPENS IN NEW YORK - 11/6

ZI, DIRECTED BY KOGONADA
November 6th at METROGRAPH in New York City
Grasshopper Film presents ZI, a new sci-fi, supernatural fantasy film by Kogonada starring Michelle Mao and Haley Lu Richardson, opening November 6th at Metrograph in New York City. Enter to win a pair of tickets to opening night by replying back to this email. You must be in NYC or the surrounding area to participate. More about the film...

In Hong Kong, a young violinist named Zi (Michelle Mao) struggles with her memory while enigmatic visions of her future self haunt her. She meets a stranger named Elle (Haley Lu Richardson), whom she recognizes from these visions. Together, they spend the day walking Hong Kong's streets and are soon joined by Min (Jin Ha), a researcher at the local neurology center. As the day turns to night and night turns to dawn, Zi must reconcile the increasingly overlapping realities of her past, present, and future selves. The latest feature from Kogonada, the acclaimed director of After Yang and Columbus, zi is a beguiling meditation on memory, time, and human connection.

The Sci Fi Book Club
November Book
Look to Windward - Ian M. Banks
MEETUP: Sunday, Nov 22 · 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST
Hi all! So glad to have our Iain M. Banks selection finalized for November. As we've discussed previously, the books in the Culture series are connected, but don't necessarily need to be read in order. The Club really enjoyed Book 2, The Player of Games, and I'm curious to see where in the universe we land with Book 7, 2000's Look to Windward.
sophyanempire has a solid review of this entry in the Culture series, calling Look to Windward “exciting, tense, sad and heroic.” She notes that from there, “the book grows in scope, showing multiple perspectives, almost all of them from a non-human alien point of view.”
The Guardian also has a great review from when the book was first published. Phil Daoust writes that “Banks has tremendous fun with his giant canvas” in Windward.
To join a Book Club meeting, all you will need is YOURSELF. If you haven't had a chance to finish the book, we still would love for you to join us in the discussion.
About the Sci Fi Book Club
The Sci Fi Book Club was founded in 2014 as a way to formally explore the genre of Science Fiction. With books ranging from classics to new releases and from novels to short stories, we aim for diversity in our selections.
Club members have one month to read the book the group has agreed on. We meet via Zoom on the third Sunday of each month to talk about our reading and all things Sci Fi. Our hope is that members will come ready to contribute to the conversation both in their thoughts on the given book and with any insight into related media that might inform our discussion.
INTRODUCING CYBER CLUB!
A Digital Community For Independent Film
Brooklyn SciFi and the team at Cyber-NY are working on something new. We're building an independent network for film professionals to share and monetize their work while connecting with fans. Our hope is to create a community with a year-round presence that encourages collaboration and the development of an independent streaming platform.
We're looking for intrepid filmmakers to join our beta for free by creating an account profile and uploading several films they're okay with sharing. We won't make your work public without prior consent, and our admin tools allow for self-management and deletion of videos.
We hope you'll join us on this journey as we navigate the changing landscape of art house cinema and independent film. Please sign up for our private beta if you're interested, or reply to this email with questions.
