The Ususal Selected to Three Film Festivals is Now A Finalist At Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival

The Usual, an animated comedy sci-fi short, written by Yeni Alvarez and directed by Rachel Brewster was accepted into three film festivals and is now a Finalist within the animation category of the Brooklyn SciFi Film FestivalThis short film with a zero budget premiered at the legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, as part of the Silicon Beach Film Festival. It will go on to the Glendale International Film Festival in late September, and is a Finalist in the Brooklyn Sci-Fi Film Festival in October. The Usual is a time travel coffee adventure and a love letter to 1980’s tv shows. It features the voices of Alessandra Levy, K Beau Foster and Victor Clarke, with a cameo from Yeni Alvarez.

In premiering at Grauman’s Chinese Theaters, The Usual joins the ranks of other high-profile films of this internationally respected theater including Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings in 1927, The Wizard of Oz in 1939, and Star Wars in 1977.

From Rachel: First of all, we are so appreciative of the warm reception we’ve received from audiences and festivals alike. The Usual was prompted by Creators Society's Creators Jam where teams of 11 were randomly assigned and given 30 days to complete an animated short. What started as an exercise in team-building and problem-solving has reinspired a passion for storytelling and networking in many of us who worked on this short. The stories I’m drawn to usually involve a small character getting wrapped up in a big adventure; that, and my love for coffee, drew me to the brilliant pitch for The Usual, written by Yeni Alvarez.

I’d also like to call out the rest of our team, since we are only 11: Robert Livingston Jr (project manager), Richard Smith (storyboards), Ambrose Reed (art director), Erin Miller (animator), Gabi Mayorga (Editor), David Das (composer & sound).
